Subaru Australia has confirmed pricing and opened pre-orders for its third electric vehicle (EV), the Uncharted, ahead of its expected mid-2026 launch.

The Uncharted will be available in a single variant priced at $59,990 before on-road costs, making it Subaru’s cheapest EV to appear in local showrooms thus far. It slots in below the Solterra, Subaru’s first EV, which now starts at $61,990 before on-roads after a price cut announced today.

Like its larger Solterra and Trailseeker EV stablemates – forming Subaru’s so-called ‘Sport Electric Vehicle’ (SEV) range – the Uncharted is twinned with a Toyota EV. In this case, it’s the C-HR+ small electric SUV that’s also coming to Australia, albeit much later than the Subaru in mid-2027.

Once it arrives, the Uncharted will compete with other compact electric SUVs like the BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia EV3, though its price is more closely aligned with the top-spec versions of each.

It seems likely the Uncharted will follow the Solterra in being built by Toyota in Japan, rather than by Subaru, which builds the Trailseeker and its bZ4X Touring twin. Unsurprisingly, the Uncharted has much in common with the other modern Toyota/Subaru EVs.

Australian models will be fitted with a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery sourced from Chinese manufacturer CATL, enabling a claimed electric driving range of 522km on the WLTP cycle. It can support DC fast charging at up to 150kW, with a 10-80 per cent charge claimed to take 30 minutes.

Though a cut-price front-drive option is available in the US, Australian-delivered models will exclusively feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration, in keeping with all local Subarus except the BRZ. Subaru still calls this ‘Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive’ despite the lack of a mechanical driveshaft between the front and rear axles.

This powertrain produces a peak power output of 252kW, giving the Uncharted a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of around five seconds. It also enables the inclusion of Subaru’s dual-mode X-Mode for off-road driving, incorporating Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control.

Inside, the Uncharted is nearly indistinguishable from Subaru’s existing EVs. Front and centre is a 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which sits above dual wireless phone chargers.

There’s also a 7.0-inch digital instrument display mounted high on the dashboard, alongside Subaru’s characteristic squared-off EV steering wheel, which is heated and wrapped in leather.

The front seats are upholstered in synthetic leather and offer eight-way power adjustment, two-position memory for the driver, and lumbar support. These, along with the reclining outboard rear seats, are also heated.

A digital rear-view mirror is standard, as is a power tailgate and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function with a 1500W power outlet. Additionally, the Uncharted packs a full suite of safety gear, including Subaru’s Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS), Subaru Vision Assist, and driver attention monitoring.

It’ll be fitted with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, while a panoramic glass roof is available as an option for $1200. Alternatively, buyers can pair the panoramic roof with two-tone paint for $2400.

Dimensionally, Subaru Australia has so far only confirmed that the Uncharted will have a ground clearance of 211mm (just 9mm less than the smaller Crosstrek), but it’ll almost certainly use the same measurements as the C-HR+.

The Toyota is 4520mm long, 1870mm wide, 1595mm tall, and rides on a 2750mm wheelbase, which makes it slightly larger than alternatives like the Atto 3 and EV3.

“The Uncharted needs to be experienced to be truly understood, it will surprise you in all the best ways,” Subaru Australia general manager Scott Lawrence said in a press release.

“It’s super energised, nimble, corners on a dime and makes you feel like the car constantly wants more from you. It carries the ground clearance of an SUV but the soul of a performance car.

“That’s the result of taking the best of Subaru engineering and pouring it into one exceptionally well-crafted Sport Electric Vehicle.”

Pre-orders are now open for the Uncharted on the Subaru Australia website.
