Tesla once again has a three-row SUV to offer Australian customers.

The Tesla Model Y L is based on the popular Model Y mid-size electric SUV – Australia’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV) – but stretched to accommodate a third row of seating.

Orders are now open for the six-seater Model Y L, with deliveries commencing from the second quarter (April to June) of 2026.

Available in a single Premium AWD trim, it’s priced at $74,900 before on-road costs – $6000 more than the Model Y Premium Long Range AWD.

The two third-row seats feature heating, ISOFIX and top-tether anchor points for child seats, air vents and USB-C outlets; they can also be folded flat with the touch of a button.

The Model Y L drops the Model Y’s second-row bench for a pair of captain’s chairs, which are heated, ventilated and power-adjustable. There’s still an 8.0-inch entertainment screen here, plus air vents, USB-C outlets, and ISOFIX and top-tether anchor points.

Apart from the stretched body, other signs you’re looking at a Model Y L and not a regular Model Y include a unique 19-inch alloy wheel design and an exclusive Cosmic Silver exterior paint finish. The Model Y L also features a rear spoiler inspired by that of the Model Y Performance.

    The Model Y L comes with a 378kW/590Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain.

Tesla hasn’t disclosed the capacity of the battery, but with 681km of range on the WLTP cycle it represents a big jump over the 600km of the Model Y Premium Long Range AWD.

The Model Y L debuts vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for Tesla in Australia and New Zealand, which can supply 3.3kW of power output to external electrical devices or equipment via an available adaptor.

It also features continuous variable damping, with two selectable modes: Balanced or Rear Comfort.

There are few electric SUVs priced under $100,000 with a third row of seating, with the Model Y L’s only competition for now coming from the smaller Mercedes-Benz EQB and the larger Kia EV9 – both of which are more expensive with starting prices of $90,000 and $97,000 before on-roads, respectively.
